Employers in the Scheme

Employers who participate in the Fund fall into the following categories:

Scheduled Employers

Scheduled employers are defined in the LGPS regulations and have a statutory obligation to allow their staff automatic membership of the LGPS, provided they are eligible to join.

Scheduled bodies include County Councils, County Borough Councils, Further Education Colleges, Local Authority Schools, etc.

Admission Bodies

Certain types of employers can participate in the LGPS via an admission agreement agreed with the Powys County Council Pension Fund.

There are two types of admission bodies:

Community Admission body (CAB) which includes organisations that provide a public service otherwise than for the purposes of gain, and has sufficient links with a Scheme Employer to be regarded as having community interest.
Transferee Admission body (TAB). The LGPS permits transferred staff to be offered membership of the LGPS under an admission agreement, where a service has been outsourced to the private sector. In order to gain access to the scheme, a TAB must be deemed to provide a service or assets in connection with the exercise of a function of a Scheme Employer.
